Jazz Mele Band
This professional five-piece dance band has enjoyed entertaining Hawaii audiences for the past several years with classic jazz standards, swing, Latin, jump blues and boogie woogie. Jazz Mele performs regularly in Hilo clubs and for private functions and their main objective is to have fun and to get your feet movin’!
Vocalist Lou Ann Gurney has been singing all her life, has a BA degree in music, and received a 2008 Hoku nomination for her CD “Joy Ride.” Over the years, pianist Mark Mallory has played with many of Hawaii’s luminaries; his 2003 CD of jazz originals “Message from Puna” received a Hoku nomination. Richard Lee, professor of music at UH Hilo, has a PhD in music composition and plays soprano, alto and tenor saxophones and flute. Bruce David, one of the island’s top drummers and recording engineers, is a long time professional with a flair for blues, funk, swing and jazz. Versatile bassist John Parker has appeared with symphony orchestras as well as in concert with numerous celebrities, including Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, and June Christy.
